Today’s Way is Love Books so it’s all about reading for pleasure. This is a BIG topic for me, as you’ll see from the reading brain research section of my website here. Spending time – or, rather, allowing yourself time, for reading for pleasure is one of the best things you can do for your brain. It not only builds your brain, enriching and widening your knowledge and ideas, but it also raises self-esteem and mood and lowers stress.
I have lots of tips for encouraging and including people who aren’t very keen on reading, too. Here’s a starting point.
- Download and start using this Readaxation Diary. And share it with anyone you know who needs a bit of encouragement or validation for reading!
- Tonight when you get into bed: phone/tablet OFF; book in hand; read; sleep! Reading before sleep is deeply wired into most people’s brains because they’ve been doing it – or had books read to them – from a very young age. That’s why we so often fall asleep before we’ve even been reading for five minutes…
For a chance of winning one of FIVE free signed copies of Ten Ways to Build a Brilliant Brain, add your comment beneath at least TWO of the numbered Ten Ways posts. Today is number nine. Details/rules here.
Look out for TEN WAYS in your local bookshop. And if you don’t see it there, ask! Bookshops will always order for you and it doesn’t cost extra. You can order from Bookshop-org from my own page and if you do, you help independent bookshops AND me. Thank you!
