As I often say, books change lives. Although libraries are utterly necessary, owning a book does something special. Some children grow up without any books to call their own – and no trips to a library, either. But I’ve come across an absolutely brilliant no-brainer of a way to change the life of a young person in difficult circumstances: donate some money to Book Trust and they will send books to a child or young person who’s life badly needs to be changed.
I’ve had a good year and have been lucky in so many ways and I have decided to repay a bit of that by supporting this wonderful scheme. It’s easy, quick, heart-warming and it will bring happiness to a young person whose life isn’t yet full of books and choices and hope.
You can bring that for a child. Please do! And, whether you can spare some money or not, please share the idea really widely.
Books change lives and there’s a vulnerable life waiting for you to step in and change it. You can’t buy a piano and create the next Elton John, but you can buy a book and empower a mind.

And remember: it will do you some good, too, because giving benefits the giver. As I say, a no-brainer!
