Going back to school at the end of the long school holiday can be tough on staff and students. I have something to help! (Apologies for the sales plug, but I don’t have anyone doing the marketing for me and, much as I hate doing it, there’s no point in having spent thousands of hours creating these materials and then not selling them!)
My classroom materials – Brain Sticks and Stress Well for Schools – come with a special offer for September** only. [NOW EXTENDED THROUGH OCTOBER]
- Buy Stress Well for Schools and you can choose any one of the books listed below, for your school library or department collection, signed and posted with a selection of posters and postcards.
- Buy a Brain Stick and you get your choice of TWO of those books, PLUS a copy of Positively Teenage. Brains Sticks also already come with a free pdf of Know Your Brain. Brain Sticks are also currently at a reduced price.
- Buy both and, yes, you can choose THREE books! (PLUS Positively Teenage and the cards and posters.)
These classroom materials are incredible value, as they come with perpetual, limitless licences, so your school can use them forever, with every student. They include loads of shareable, printable, copiable materials, whether worksheets, activities, diaries, Powerpoint presentations or animated teaching videos. They are designed to enrich teachers’ lives and empower students to look after their own wellbeing and achieve the success they are capable of.
For your info (though all the details are here for Brain Sticks and here for Stress Well), a Brain Stick is called a Brain STICK because it’s a neat USB stick in a very cute box and the stick is loaded with stacks of activities and information (over 100 activities) to teach students how to use their brains well. Stress Well consists of downloadable pdfs.

I’ve had lovely comments from schools which have used these materials. How about joining them?
“Nicola’s materials are accessible, well resourced and ideally suited for use in the classroom. We have used activities from the Brain Sticks resource with our S3 (Year 10) pupils to help with our work on wellbeing and study skills. The Flourish activity helped pupils understand the different ways to support a healthy brain and resulted in lots of engaging discussion as pupils discussed their own daily routines and the small changes that could boost their brain. The Stroop activity was a quick and fun way to test their brains and, again, resulted in reflection and discussion about how their brains work. We plan to incorporate more of the Brain Sticks activities into our Citizenship (PSE) programme to help develop more discussion around healthy brains, managing stress and wellbeing.” George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh
“Absolutely loving the resource!” A school in the Rep of Ireland.
“…your amazing BRAINSTICKS resources …. what leaps & bounds we’ve made in terms of supporting pupils’ wellbeing & stress/anxiety reduction!” Helen Keevil, Assistant Head in charge of Pupil Welfare at Epsom College.
In other (almost) news…
…I am almost allowed to give news of my next book title and topic. When I do, I’ll celebrate with a Twitter/website giveaway of Positively Teenage. And I’ll be asking for help – yours! I’ll need it, too – this is an exciting but difficult book to write, with a very demanding deadline (not helped by the fact that my daughter is getting married in November!)
I realise I haven’t been writing anything very interesting on my website recently. It’s been a busy and sometimes overwhelming year. But I have been thinking a lot. There’s something that been vexing/worrying/annoying me and I need to find a way to talk about it constructively. It’s very relevant to schools.
