Apologies that I’m doing a daily post for ten days but TEN WAYS TO BUILD A BRILLIANT BRAIN comes out on Aug 4th and I’m giving away free copies – See here – and insights from the book. The second way is Fuel Your Brain. This is about the importance of getting fuel in the form of calories and also the nutrients that we need for good brain function. It also explains why we need water even though water has no calories/energy. I talk about how energy-hungry the brain is and show readers why good food choices help their physical and mental health.

The focus on calories is important. Some people negatively obsess about calories, seeing them only as ‘fattening’. Calories are not fattening – some sorts of unhealthy lifestyle are fattening, involving poor food choices and poor activity choices. It is simply a fact that your brain and body both need enough calories in the form of a sensible range of food. The bigger the variety the better because that’s the only way to guarantee you also get all the right nutrients. Dieting or restricting food and being hungry do not allow your brain to work well or your body to do all its great work for you.

Ten Ways gives you the facts you need and a huge choice of foods to choose from.

  1. Thank you Nicola, I have noticed that my teens will eat loads of crisps, but unlike even 2/3 years ago the hummus, veg, even some fruit! may remain untouched. In fact, they will not even make a sandwich!
    Your post has reminded me to keep on trying!

  2. I think young people get so carried away with social media that they sometimes forget to eat. They don’t realise that we need to add fuel to our bodies so that they are in optimum condition. Great tip
