Packing my balaclava for a weekend with the SAS

The Scattered Authors Society, that is. We are a large group of published UK children’s/YA authors and we exist to support each other and share knowledge, experience, highs and lows, and chocolate. And, more than occasionally, wine. Children’s writers are a very supportive and lovely bunch and the pooling of experiences and thoughts is extremely valuable.

Each year the SAS gets together for a weekend conference and that’s where I’m going today. It’s a secret location, of course. I could tell you but if I did, I’d have to…

I’m doing two talks, one on [redacted] and the other on the fascinating subject of [redacted]. There will be around forty of us there, all in disguise.

The entry requirements for the SAS are simple:

  • You must know the secret handshake and be able to deliver it with absolute accuracy without night-vision goggles.
  • You must be able to cross dangerous terrain on your stomach and not be spotted.
  • You must not look stunning in camouflage gear, otherwise that defeats the purpose of camouflage gear, you idiot.

I am massively looking forward to the weekend. There’ll be lots of writers I know well and lots I’ve never met and I can’t wait to enjoy everyone’s wisdom and friendship.

I won’t report back. Bwahahahahahaaaaaaa
